LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday reserved its decision on a petition challenging the ban on media coverage at airports. Journalist organizations have approached the court against the ban on media coverage at airports.
The petitioners’ counsel alleged that the impugned ban was imposed only to conceal corruption and smuggling at airports. He submitted that the attitude of airport authorities was not good with domestic and foreign passengers and the delay in arrival and departure of flights was a routine.
He said this was the main reason behind inflicting the ban. He said there was no security reason behind this decision and the aim of the authorities for such an unconstitutional step was to hide the increasing incidents of negligence.
He said prohibiting media coverage meant snatching freedom of expression, and it was also a violation of the Constitution. The government counsel had taken the plea that the ban was imposed due to security reasons. After hearing the arguments, the chief justice reserved his judgment.
