Shocking footage captures cockroaches on passenger plane

LONDON:  A horrified plane passenger has filmed the moment he found his Pakistan International Airlines seat occupied by cockroaches.

The grim footage, which was recorded by Muhammad Jami and uploaded to Live Leak, shows a number of the insects scurrying across the upholstery before take-off. At one point they can even be seen running over the airline-branded pillow cover, before darting between the seat and back rest. As the 30-second clip plays out, the disgruntled passenger - who'd only just boarded the craft - can be seen complaining to a PIA air steward.   It's not clear how, or if, the matter was resolved.

Since being shared on social media, the footage has gone viral with thousands of hits across the world. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time Pakistan International Airlines has been subjected to criticism.

Other carriers have also suffered unwelcome passengers on their planes. In 2014 an Air India flight had to be grounded due to an infestation of rats. The aircraft's crew noticed the rodent stowaways scurrying free in the rear half of the cabin as the plane, carrying about 200 passengers and staff, landed at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport from Calcutta. After flight AI021 landed safely and pulled up to the gate, the crew cleared everyone off the Airbus A321 and had it taken out of service.
