Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu on Wednesday said that minorities played a pivotal role in the creation and development of Pakistan.
He said the Punjab government would adopt coordinated strategy with consultation of all stakeholders for increasing seats of minorities in the Punjab Assembly. A strategy will be devised for welfare and solution to their problems through Minorities Rights Commission Punjab Bill. During his meeting with MPAs Shahzad Munshi and Kanji Ram in his office, Khalil Tahir said that it had become necessary to increase the special seats of minorities in the provincial assembly in accordance with the authentic figures regarding minority population so that they could be provided with better facilities. He said legislation regarding protection of their rights could be made to create positive image of the country in the comity of nations.
MPA Shahzad Munshi, who had presented the bill for Minorities Rights Commission in Punjab Assembly, said all members of the assembly, including Muslims and Christians, were agree to approve the important bill to make possible provision of equal rights to minorities and enhance the opportunities of progress and prosperity for minorities in the province.
