Eid shopping spree has gained its full momentum in the twin cities as the buyers are crowding the markets and shopping malls to do their Eid shopping for near and dear ones.
“Women usually buy clothes, shoes and embroidery during the first two weeks of Ramazan while the last two weeks are reserved for purchasing cosmetics, bangles and ready-made suits for children,” said Raja Faisal, a shopkeeper.
He said the prices of men’s and women’s wear, both local and foreign, rose by 25 to 30 per cent from the last year’s prices and it happens every year so this is not a new phenomenon.
The rush of customers at the shopping centres starts from evening and runs till closing of the shops. The buying spree is likely to continue till the last day of the holy Ramazan. Eid cards sellers have also set up stalls outside shops to attract customers but they are receiving discouraging response from the visitors.
With rise in the number of buyers, traffic jam in the city’s busy market places and intersections, particularly in front of shopping centres, has become acute. The massive traffic jams are being seen in various markets including Commercial Market, Awan Market, G-9 Markaz, Jinnah Super Market and Saddar.
