Mother gets custody of two children

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions court on Tuesday handed over two children to their mother after getting them recovered from the illegal custody of father.Asia Shahzad, a resident of Muslim Town, had filed a habeas corpus petition before the court contending that her husband Shahzad had detained her two sons. She said that she had a bitter wedlock due to which scuffle on domestic matters was a routine issue. She said that on June 18, her husband kicked her out from his house and didn’t allow her to bring her sons Ali and Husnain. She implored the court for the recovery of her children. On her plea, the court appointed a bailiff who recovered the children from the house of Shahzad and produced them before the court. The court handed over the children to their mother.

 

LAHORE: The Punjab Commission on the Status of Women and the Punjab Women’s Parliamentary Caucus welcomed the Lahore High Court decision of restoring Section 7 of the Christian Divorce Act, 1869. This section allows Christian couples to divorce without resorting to the allegation of adultery as the only legal ground for dissolution of their marriage. Chairperson Fauzia Viqar said the commission believed in the equality of all citizens before law as enunciated in Article 25 of the Constitution.

 

LAHORE: The NAB Lahore on Tuesday arrested another accused in alleged embezzlement and irregularities in purchasing land for the Pakistan Industries Development Corporation (PIDC). According to a NAB spokesman, the arrested accused was identified as Zahid Mehmood. He was an accused in the purchase of 800 kanals land for the PIDC.
