Stand up for the champions
The Champions Trophy final match between Pakistan and India was no less than a battle. The intransigent and aggressive Indian media had already created much hype about it. Statements of a few known Indian celebrities added fuel to the fire. However, the performance of the Pakistan cricket team was splendidly magnificent.
The morale of Pakistani players was incredibly high. Every player looked determined and enthusiastic, and performed brilliantly. After a long time Pakistan won a mega event particularly by defeating India. By defeating its arch rival – the Indian team – the Pakistan cricket team won the hearts of Pakistani people living home or abroad. Well done Pakistan.

This Sunday (Jun 18), the Pakistan cricket team gave a marvellous gift to this nation by defeating India in the Champions Trophy final.
The more important thing is that this victory was celebrated not only by Pakistanis, but by people of Indian-held Kashmir as well. This was indeed a historic victory against one of the best teams.

The recent victory against India in the Champions Trophy has created a false sense of superiority among a large number of people. Social media is filled with inappropriate jokes and comments. Although winning a mega event is commendable, the nation must accept the fact that by defeating India in a cricket tournament, the country has not gone ahead of India.
Pakistanis must celebrate their victory as it should be celebrated – neither more nor less. If the country wants to compete with India in other fields, it should excel in other fields, including fields related to science, research and development, etc. The real strength of a country doesn’t depend on the number of tournaments it has won, but on the strength of its economy and military.
