Steps being taken to generate electricity through coal, LNG: minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday said that sufficient electricity would be available by utilizing coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Steps were being taken to generate electricity through coal and LNG, he said while talking to a private news channel. He said that a number of institutions, including federal and provincial, were not paying outstanding amount of billions to the ministry of water and power.
He said there was a need to pay utility bills in a proper manner to the ministry for ensuring smooth system of power in the country. The minister said that over 90 percent people living in Tank area were not paying the outstanding amount to the department. To a question he said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government after coming to power had taken concrete measures in the power sector.
Khawaja Asif said that sufficient water was not available in the canals or rivers particularly in the winter season which was creating problems for production of electricity. To a question about civil-nuclear deal of India with the United States, Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said that Pakistan had made efforts to invite US for carrying out energy projects in Pakistan.
