NAB arrests contractor for fraud

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Public Works Department’s (PWD) official contractor for making millions of rupees loss to national exchequer. 

The accused was identified as Muhammad Bashir. According to a NAB spokesman, the accused contractor, Bashir, with the connivance of PWD officials managed to embezzle millions of rupees by submitting bogus bills/payments fraudulently of 19 x development projects regarding construction of roads, soling, drainage, etc in Sheikhupura as the same were already executed by the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Sheikhupura. All bills were approved and paid out too whereas the ill-gotten amount was distributed among all accused officials and the contractor, the spokesman said. He said the NAB received a complaint against the accused and launched an investigation into the matter, and during the inquiry it was revealed that all the bills regarding 19 x developments projects were bogus. 

The contractor would be produced before an accountability court on Friday (today) for physical remand.
