TOBA TEK SINGH: A man and a woman were killed while many others were injured in windstorm and hailstorm-related incidents in Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad districts on Saturday night.
A man was killed and more than 12 others were injured when a heavy windstorm followed by torrential rain and hailstorm hit the district. A 60-year-old farmer, Faqir Muhammad, was present in his outhouse at Chak 360/GB when a big ice ball during hailstorm hit his head, causing his spontaneous death. At Chak 55/GB, Tukra, near Kamalia, the wall of a house fell during windstorm. As a result, an aged woman and an 18-year-old girl were seriously injured. They were shifted to the Kamalia THQ Hospital. There were reports of injuries to more than 12 people on whom trees fell on roadsides when they took shelter during rain and windstorm in Kamalia and Pirmahal tehsils. The windstorm also uprooted hundreds of trees, blocking traffic on different link roads.
A number of poles and transformers fell down due to the windstorm, causing power suspension in different areas. Electricity could not be restored in a number of areas even after the passage of more than 20 hours. The water supply also remained suspended due to the power suspension. Mango orchards were also affected by the windstorm and at least 30 per cent fruit had been fallen down from the mango trees.

APP adds from Faisalabad: A woman was killed while her spouse sustained serious injuries in a roof collapse incident at Meeranwala Bungalow. The roof of Muzammil’s house caved in due to strong windstorm. As a result, Muzammil and his wife Shakeela Bibi were buried under the debris. On receiving information, Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot and pulled the victims out of debris. Shakeela Bibi found dead while Muzammil was shifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the electricity supply from various feeders of Faisalabad and its surroundings remained suspended due to windstorm that lashed the city on Saturday evening.A Fesco spokesman said here that windstorm and rain broke the electricity wires in some areas due to which electricity supply from many grids remained suspended. However, the Fesco staff restored the electricity supply to its consumers late night, he added.
