Living up to the expectations of the residents of New Sohan, a locality along Islamabad Expressway, United Religions Initiatives, Multi Cooperation Circles, Islamabad Capital Territory (URI MCCI ICT), distributed ‘Ramazan Food Packages’ among deserving families of the area.

The packages provided to URI MCCI ICT by Ambassador of United Arab Emirates Essa Abdulla Albasha Al-Noaimi, after the URI MCC ICT Coordinator Dr Allama GR Chishti personally approached the embassy through a good friend of his, Sheikh Usman Ali Saadudin.

The food package included 20-kilogranm flour pack, 5 kilogram rice, pulses, 5 kilogram sugar, 1000 grams pack of tea and other necessary household items. The recipients of food packages include Muslim and destitute non-Muslim families of New Sohan.

Talking to ‘The News’, URI MCC ICT Coordinator Dr Allama GR Chishti said that it was kind gesture of ambassador of United Arab Emirates to Pakistan Essa Abdulla Albasha Al-Noaimi for providing this food package for the destitute families of the area. “We really appreciate his kind gesture and encourage other philanthropists to come forward the help the needy people of New Sohan, who despite living in federal capital and only few kilometres away from Zero Point look like they are living in a village having no facilities. I will like to take this opportunity are raise the problems of the residents of New Sohan from the URI platform for which I had made solemn promises in the past,” he added.

He said that the food package was meant for the deserving families whether they were Muslims or non-Muslims and there is no discrimination on part of URI in this regard. “They are all human beings and if we can feed few mouths then Allah Almighty will give us the reward not only in this world but also in the hereafter,” he added.

Dr Chishti said that although we are living in the 21st century, but New Sohan seems to be an area which has no proper roads, no sewerage system and no gas or any other proper facility of the posh areas.

He said that the URI is a global grassroots interfaith network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world. "This platform will be used for resolution of problems faced by the community members of this area. Majority of the residents of the area comprises members of minorities including Christians whereas some Muslim and Hindu families also reside here. The area which falls under UC 21 resembles like a downtrodden slum and we are quite dejected at this situation," he added.

He said that located along Islamabad Expressway only few kilometres from Zero Point our area comprises Father Colony, Salvation Army Colony, Christian Colony, Chashma Town, Iqbal Town, Raja Nizamuddin Town. This area is overall called New Sohan and dilapidated roads in this area have become more troublesome. All these localities lack a proper drainage system as sewage inundates these broken roads causing more inconvenience to the residents of the area.

He said that Islamabad administration should realise the problems of the area and resolve their problems on urgent basis.  He appealed to philanthropists who want to help destitute families of the area by contacting URI MCC Islamabad at 03015055014.
