PESHAWAR: A new collection of Pashto poetry, Goyana Karkhe, written by Amjad Ali Khadim, has hit the stalls.
The book consists of poems besides 24 modern ghazals depicting the ups and downs in the society, deprivation of the poor children and violence and terrorism. Noted writers and intellectuals, including Department of Pashto, Islamia College University, Chairman Prof Dr Abaseen Yousafzai, Director Pashto Academy Prof Dr Nasrullah Jan and Regional Director Radio Pakistan Peshawar Laiq Zada Laiq termed the book a progressive and modern poetry collection and a good effort by Amjad Ali Khadim.
The writer, a journalist by profession, has already authored books including Lamghare, Karkech, Ghargay ao Guloona and Da Ranra Safar. There are also pieces on great Pashto poet and intellectual late Amir Hamza Khan Shinwari, founding chairman of Word Pashto Congress, late Jehanzeb Niaz, Sadaat Hasan Manto, president Anjuman Taraqipasand Mussannifeen Salim Raz, Baba-e-Pashto Sahafat Pir Sufaid Shah Hamdard, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Prof Pareshan Khattak.
Khadim plans to bring out soon a prose book consisting of interviews of political, social and literary figures of tribal agencies from Bajaur to South Waziristan. The book can be termed a positive contribution to the Pashto language and literature.
