The Sindh government is formulating a plan to establish children’s wards at 10 hospitals to cater to the growing needs of the people living in the megalopolis, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Tuesday as he inaugurated an 80-bed Paediatric Emergency Ward established by the Child Life Foundation (CLF) at the Sindh Government Hospital, Korangi No 5.

Just after taking over as the chief minister, Murad said, he had visited the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) where he was informed that 80,000 children were treated there every month.

“The Sindh Government Hospital Korangi-5 has become the third major child health facility, with the NICH and the Civil Hospital already catering to the city’s needs,” he said, adding that at least two more children healthcare facilities were needed to be built on a priority basis.

The chief minister was informed by his subordinates that emergency wards could be established at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and the Nagan Chorangi Government Hospital to prove round-the-clock services.

Murad said he was ready to provide money for it as there was no shortage of funds for the health. “All I need is a group of dedicated and devoted doctors who can serve the ailing children selflessly,” he said. The chief minister also announced that 10 children hospitals would be operated following the public-private partnership.

The chief minister visited all sections of the Paediatrics Emergency Ward, including the ICU, and lauded the set up.
