People demand staff for lone girls’ higher secondary school in Oghi

MANSEHRA: The lone higher secondary school for girls in Oghi tehsil has been running with a skeleton teaching staff as posts of 31 teachers, out of a total of 46 sanctioned, are lying vacant for a long period of time.

“We have taken up this issue with local lawmakers and education department many times but in vain and now we will take to the streets against it as this is the only girls’ higher education institution in the entire tehsil,” Ashfaq Shah, the nazim village council Khattai, told reporters on Monday.

A total of 1500 girl students from various parts of the tehsil are enrolled at the Government Higher Secondary School for Girls in Oghi and only 15 teachers have been managing classes there. The higher secondary section, which is having a total strength of 400 students, is being run by an Islamiyat teacher and rest of the posts of teaching staff are vacant.

The posts of two science teachers for higher secondary section are vacant since long and currently only arts subjects are being taught there although many students wanted to study science subjects.

“We are wasting time and don’t have any educational environment at our school,” a student said.She added that Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, claims much about revolutionary steps in education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa “but situation at our school is an eye-opener for him as 14 posts of teachers, out of a total 15 sanctioned posts in the higher secondary section, are vacant.” She said that there was no girls’ college in Oghi.Ashfaq Shah said the chief minister should take notice of the situation at the school and those responsible for delay in posting of teaching staff should be brought to justice.
