Are Pervaiz-es hibernating or active?

Have the two prominent ‘Pervaiz-es’ gone into hibernation? The answer is that one of them, Pervaiz Rashid, has been sent into forced hibernation though it is almost next to impossible for this eternally restless soul to remain inactive and under the surface.

Let us now wait and see when does this Pervaiz re-surface courtesy the resilience of his boss, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif who seldom forgets the services of his deputies and loyalists.

The other Pervaiz namely Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, also appears to be moving in a pause mode for the time being as he is appearing on the political horizon once or twice a week as compared with his indefatigable, repeated appearances till the recent past when he would come on the public (and TV) screen almost daily.

Some insiders, however, tell a different story. According to them, Chaudhry Pervaiz stands activated and motivated as he is vehemently busy these days in preparing a ‘war strategy’ for ensuring the ouster of political rivals in the forthcoming 2018 general elections. What strategy, I asked? How far one can call Ch Pervaiz Elahi a better strategist or a better ‘election scientist’ than Mian Nawaz Sharif, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and party?

The reply came: “He is in fact actively engaged in studying the election science techniques of his rival parties with which they have been ruling the roost’. But isn’t the Chaudhry aware of the ‘science of election’ or what we call ‘election techniques’ which is usually said to be the PML-N forte for quite some time?

The PML-Q activists and people enjoying the trust of Chaudhrys say that the latter are very good strategists and know all the techniques of selecting winning candidates, constituency-wise canvassing and campaigning and establishing mass, popular contact.

But is the knowledge and skill of these few factors enough to combat the tigers and lions in the arena (I mean PML-N leadership) who have been holding the fort for years and years together?

This question I’ve been raising  before both the Chaudhrys, Ch. Pervaiz Elahi and Ch Shujaat Hussain. Both the Chaudhrys were never  found lacking in confidence-or self-confidence. They were convinced from the core of their hearts that ROs (Returning Officers) of the last, 2013 general elections turned the tide or overturned the actual results which were otherwise favouring political parties other than PML-N (an obvious reference to the calculated or expected victory of PML-Q along with some other parties that meant no-majority to PML-N).

It has been further learnt that Chaudhrys have started working on identifying their own weaknesses as well as the weaknesses in the system of elections on the basis of their defeat in the last elections which they think owed to rigging as well as engineered polls/results. Many expert bureaucrats and astute political scientists/ politicians have been engaged to prepare a better and more effective strategy to counter the rising clout of PML-N and other influential parties.
