No casualty as IED targets forces’ vehicles

BARA: An improvised explosive device (IED) went off near the security forces’ vehicle here, official sources said on Friday.However, no casualty was reported in the explosion.The sources said unidentified miscreants had planted the IED on the road in Mandikas area in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency. And the blast occurred when the security forces vehicle was passing through the area, the sources said.Soon after the blast, the security forces and Khassadar personnel cordoned off the area. The sources said several suspected people were arrested in the subsequent search operation.

ANP member quits party

PESHAWAR: A member of Awami National Party, Manzoor Khalil, on Friday announced quitting the party over its alleged flawed policies and favoritism.Addressing a news conference here, he accused the ANP leader Arbab Tahir of having indifferent attitude to the party workers and harassing them. He said ideological workers were neglected and new comers favoured. He said he was not joining any other party and would contest the next election in independent capacity.

MINGORA: The Pakistan-US Alumni Network (PUAN) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter on Friday organised a training session on media ethics and freedom of expression.

Journalists and students of the Department of Journalism, University of Swat, attended the training. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Malakand Range, Akhtar Hayat Khan was the chief guest.

PUAN-KP chapter member and journalist, Haroon Siraj, Chairman, Department of Journalism, Khalid Khan, and former teacher Rafiullah Khan also spoke on the occasion. The speakers believed the competition for breaking news was causing unrest in the society. They stressed the need of implementation of media ethics and laws to improve the standards of journalism.
