One person was detained for questioning and merchandise including mobile phones and tablet computers was confiscated in a raid at an electronics shop in Bahadurabad.

The raid was carried out by Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Circle on a complaint by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Karachi, regarding import and sale of illegal ‘non-type approved’ mobile handsets and tablets.

An FIA spokesperson said the agency received information about a person, identified as Saad Masood, involved in purchase, import and sale of illegal/non-type approved mobile handsets and tablets.

A team of the FIA and PTA raided Masood’s shop, Mobile Mania, where the accused admitted that the mobile phones and tablets being sold were not approved by the PTA.

A total of 216 phones and tablets were seized by the team.

The brand names and IMEI numbers of the phones and tablets were forwarded to the PTA’s Karachi director for analysis and issuance of a technical report assessing whether the merchandise was illegal or otherwise.

Any further legal action, as per the FIA spokesperson, shall be taken in light of the findings of the PTA’s analysis and technical report.
