Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Tuesday lashed out at Sindh Local Government Secretary
Ramzan Awan for violating the rules and regulations of government business, calling for the bureaucrat to be sent for training at the National Institute of Public Administration.
The mayor passed these comments at a press conference at his office where he announced different development schemes of the current Provincial ADP sent to the Sindh government for approval.
Addressing media personnel, Akhtar said the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park belonged to the KMC and had been illegally handed over to the Karachi Development Authority. He added that the suspension of officers was also an illegal step and in serious violation of the approved rules and regulations.
The mayor told the newsmen that the KMC had sent new schemes costing an estimated Rs13 billion for approval. He said the demand of Rs13 billion had been conveyed to the Sindh government for approval on April 17. “We hope that these projects would be approved in the larger interest of the people of Karachi.” The mayor also spoke about the coming month of Ramazan and informed the media personnel of steps being taken to ensure smooth traffic management.
“We have chalked out a comprehensive traffic plan for Ramazan. The city traffic police chief and the commissioner have been taken onboard for the plan, and we hope the implementation will be done smoothly.”
Akhtar added that KMC’s city wardens would also be deputed in each district to assist the traffic police personnel. The mayor called for patience on the citizens’ part, stating that the efforts were afoot to redress the dilapidated condition of the city’s roads and sewage systems.
