Two alleged robbers landed in hospital after an officer of the Sindh Rangers resisted their mugging bid and shot them in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Monday.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar police said two armed men riding a motorbike tried to mug Deputy Superintendent Rangers (DSR) Javed, who is the chief security officer of the director general of the Sindh Rangers, near Continental Bakery in Block 15 of the locality. Eyewitnesses said the officer responded to the robbery bid by shooting and injuring both of them.

A police team soon arrived at the scene, arrested the robbers and took them to hospital.

Police seized one TT pistol and the two-wheeler bearing registration number LAI-6461 from the possession of the robbers identified as Anwar and Sanghar Ali. Later, SSP (East) Faisal Abdullah said in a statement that the robbers tried to deprive DSR Javed of his valuables.

He said the officer, who was in plain clothes and carrying a weapon, opened fire in self-defence and injured both men.  SSP Abdullah said the police were checking the criminal record of the suspects.
