Will shut down Karachi and Sindh, warns PSP chief

Those who were perturbed by the closure of Sharea Faisal should now brace themselves for a shut down of not just Karachi but the whole of Sindh, warned Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal on Sunday.

He was speaking to the media during a presser held to welcome Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) general secretary Nawab Rashid Ali Khan to the PSP.

"Those facing difficulties in providing basic facilities to their families will take to the streets. This entire province could even be closed down. We will not budge an inch from our 16-point charter of demand."

Referring to Khan, Kamal said that he has vowed to spend the rest of his life in achieving this cause. He added that the more Sindh government delayed accepting the 16 demands, the deeper in trouble it would be in.

On May 14, the PSP's 'Million March', held as part of the party’s campaign to demand basic necessities for Karachi, was intercepted when party workers tried to enter the city's Red Zone. Where a number of party workers were baton-charged by the police, several of its key leadership including Kamal were arrested. They were, however, released late in the night.

The step was taken to prevent the party workers and officials from marching towards the Chief Minister House where the city commissioner had imposed Section 144 - banning assembly of more than four people.

Addressing the presser, Khan said he had been associated with the PML-F for the past 37 years and had taken the decision to switch the party after much consideration.

The PSP chief and Khan were also accompanied with PSP senior leaders Anis Qaimkhani, Waseem Aftab among others.
