Last Saturday (May 13), Suzi, the only elephant at the Lahore Zoo, left the world. The mammal was 31 years old and was a source of entertainment for visitors since 1992. Her death saddened almost every animal lover. According to some media reports, during her last days, the elephant had acute pain in her legs. It is unfortunate that she lived and died in isolation.
Visitors often complain that animals kept in zoos are malnourished. Zoos around the country should follow the international guidelines for zoos’ maintenance and for providing healthy environment to animals.
