The Punjab government’s decision to ban the sale of carbonated drinks in schools is commendable. According to health experts, these drinks are harmful for the physical and mental health of growing children. The provincial government now seriously considers banning the sale of such beverages across the province to anyone under the age of 18. The ban on carbonated drinks is not limited to Pakistan. Many countries restrict the sale of energy drinks and carbonated drinks to underage children.
The excessive intake of these drinks lead to headaches, sleep problems, etc. They also have high sugar level which is harmful for health. This is a good step taken to ensure that the consumption of unhealthy drinks is minimised.
