PIA heroin scandal to be probed: Mehtab

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan on Wednesday announced to constitute an inquiry committee to probe matter of alleged recovery of heroin from PIA aircraft at Heathrow.

Addressing a press conference here, Sardar Mehtab said the inquiry committee would be headed by Aviation Secretary Irfan Illahi also consisting of experts from sensitive organisations.

The adviser while ensuring fair and transparent probe into recovery of heroin from PIA aircraft, however, said they had received no formal information from British authorities about the reported incident. “The Aviation Division has contacted the Pakistan High Commission in London while our officials have also approached the British officials,” he said.

Sardar Mehtab assured that as had been happening in the past, the issue would not be dragged under the carpet and black sheep would be exposed and taken to task. “It will not just be traditional inquiry but senior officials of premier sensitive institutions will also be part of the inquiry process,” he said adding the matter concerned dignity and prestige of the country and the nation.

He told newsmen that all the officials who had access to PK-785 which was searched by the UK officials would be questioned by the inquiry committee. To avert such incidents in future, he said a foolproof system would also be evolved in consultation with all the departments concerned.
