Save the library

Located off the Mall, the Government Punjab Public Library provides a good sight. However, the library does not have generators because of which, after 2pm, its reading halls get deserted because of pitch blackness due to loadshedding. One has to access the hall’s door by switching on any other source of light – mobile, torch etc. There are no gas heaters in the reading halls because of which one can hardly study in the winter. Washrooms are not well-maintained. The canteen is not functioning. These issues had been raised by students but in vain. Also, the library administration takes a break of almost three hours from 12pm to 3pm for Friday prayers which should either be reduced or at least readers should be allowed to sit in the library in the meanwhile.
All these problems obstruct a regular enthusiast from visiting the library. The library administration it seems is trying to paper over the cracks. On behalf of the readers and researchers, I appeal to the authority concerned to pay attention to these problems and save the library.
