Court summons two doctors from jail in organ transplantation case

LAHORE: Judicial Magistrate Farooq Azam on Tuesday summoned two accused doctors from jail in illegal organ transplantation case. The court summoned Dr Fawad Mumtaz and Dr Altamsah. Previously, the court had sent four accused including Dr Fawad Mumtaz Khan, Dr Muhammad Altamash, Shahzad and Umar Draz to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

Dr Zafar Javed revealed that he did not possess the degree of FCPS in anesthesia but was still studying, and he was simply an MBBS degree holder. He admitted initially having illegally transplanted kidneys of more than100 patients in Lahore, Gujrat and Mirpur, Azad Kashmir. A heinous racket comprising Fawad Mumtaz Khan, plastic surgeon, Muhammad Altamash Zafar Javed has not yet completed FCPS while Shahzad and Umar Draz both OTA were involved in illegal organ transplantation cases. Dr Zafar Javed disclosed he had given anesthesia to around more than 100 donors and recipients/donors. Previously, the court had remanded Abdul Majeed, who was the agent of Dr Fawad Mumtaz and used to hunt foreign clients for organ transplantation for the accused group involved in illegal kidney transplantation.
