The Mayor Rawalpindi, Sardar Nasim has divided Rawalpindi city into four sectors A, B, C, D in order to check encroachments which could help in easing the flow of traffic.

Talking at ‘Meet The Press’ programme arranged at National Press Club Rawalpindi, Sardar Nasim said that the sectors include Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazar, Chah Sultan, Commercial Market and Sadiqabad where the staff of the special team of enforcement cell would be deputed to clear encroachments established on road sides and outside the limited areas of shops which create traffic snarls.

As work on eliminating encroachments is being streamlined, the strength of staff in enforcement cell has been doubled. Earlier the number of staff in enforcement cell was insufficient numbering only 29 to 30 employees. Through reshuffling of employees from different sections of TMA Rawal Town the staff has been accommodated in enforcement cell to increase the strength.

Similarly, while adopting method of identification of enforcement staff, grey colour uniforms with caps have been given to them. A special squad of enforcement cell has been formed who would perform their duties in four sectors as assigned by the management.

Besides this step, He has Mayor Rawalpindi visited several parts of the city to make survey for ascertaining the reasons of traffic congestions in major busy parts of Rawalpindi. During survey he found many foot paths becoming source of hurdle in smooth flow of traffic. While making a plan the road would be expanded by ending such foot paths which narrows the space at different places thus creating traffic snarls.

The local government has also planned to construct number of parking lots in several busy markets and posh areas. As RDA had some years back constructed parking lot at Raja Bazar Chowk, we are considering to construct additional three storeys over it to meet the demand of vehicles to be parked. With the increase of population in Rawalpindi spaces of roads have become narrow on which people park their vehicles thus creating traffic jams. He said that the old building of Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation could also be utilised as parking place for vehicles plying on Jinnah Road, Raja Bazar, Bara Market, Liaquat Road etc. As work on streamline would be accelerated with the passage of time, people themselves would witness about the elimination of encroachments and presence of parking lots at different parts of the city, he said.
