Long power outages continue in Punjab cities
LAHORE: Long outages made people’s lives miserable on a sizzling Sunday, with at least two deaths reported in the Narowal district.
According to sources, people had to experience over six hours loadshedding in cities and more than 12 hours in rural areas. People had to face severe problems in getting water in the absence of electricity.
In Lahore, electricity demand remained 3,400 megawatts and supply 2,700 megawatts, thus a shortfall of 700 megawatts. Students taking their intermediate examinations had to face problems in preparation due to severe heat and non-availability of power for 8 to 10 hours.
Different power distribution companies failed to provide electricity according to their given schedule despite a holiday. In Pindi Bhattian, tripping continued every 20-30 minutes, damaging the electronic and electrical home appliances.
In some rural areas, people had to face 18 to 20 hours loadshedding on Sunday. In Narowal, two people died due to severe heat and non-availability of electricity. However, the police said one of the deceased was a drug addict.
