Slim chance of Ramazan moon sighting on 26th

Islamabad: The weathermen have forecast slim likelihood of the sighting of Ramazan moon on May 26. “According to the astronomical parameters, there is a slight chance of the sighting of the new moon of Ramazan, 1438AH, on the evening of May 26, 2017, i.e. on 29th of Shaban, 1438AH,” said Abdul Rashid, director at the PMD Climate Data Processing Centre of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, on Thursday. The weatherman said according to climate records, the weather was expected to be fair and partly cloudy in most parts of the country on May 26. He said the new moon of Ramazan, 1438AH, would be born on the crossing conjunction point at 0045 PST on May 26.   

 

‘Sanam Dam to bring agri revolution in Dir’

TIMERGARA: The construction of Sanam dam at Adenzai area in Lower Dir would bring about economic and agricultural revolution in the district, an official said on Thursday. Speaking at a meeting in Chakdarra, Managing Directing (MD) Small Dams, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Iqbal Khalil said the project would be completed in two years at a cost of Rs714 million out of which 90 percent would be provided by the federal government. He informed that the height of Sanam Dam would be 102 feet. The feasibility report of the dam was prepared during ZA Bhutto's government. He maintained that the dam would produce a total of 12 megawats electricity.

 

Afghan national gets five-year jail term

DERA ISMAL KHAN: A local court handed down five-year imprisonment to an Afghan national for obtaining Pakistan's Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) through illegal means. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested an Afghan national identified as Farooq Khan for possessing Pakistani identity card. Farooq had confessed that he had obtained the CNIC after paying Rs150,000 bribe to the Nadra officials. The court sentenced him to five years imprisonment.

 

Peace walk held in Kurram

PARACHINAR: The officials of the political administration and Pakistan Army organised 'peace walk' in Kurram Agency on Thursday. Led by Brigadier Malik Amir Muhammad Khan, participants of the peace walk including Commandant Kurram Militia Colonel Umar Malik, Assistant Political Agent Shahid Ali Khan and tribal elders, the marchers walked through various areas. Speaking on the occasion, they said that peace was key to the development of the region. "Durable peace can be restored and maintained by collective efforts of tribespeople," Amir Muhammad Khan added.

       

Girl shot dead in Lower Kohistan

MANSEHRA: A young girl was killed over an old enmity in Pershryal area of Lower Kohistan on Thursday. The victim was harvesting wheat crop in her field when two suspects opened indiscriminate fire on her, killing her on the spot. According to locals, it was a rare incident of its nature in Kohistan where people usually never kill women of opponents to settle scores. The locals said the families of Maulana Umeli and Noor Mohammad had enmity over a piece of land since long. The first information report of the incident was registered in the Palas Police Station, they added.
