Sadr division tops crime against property

LAHORE

Robbers killed two people and injured four on resistance and deprived over 3,500 Lahorites of their valuables, gold ornaments, cellphones, cars and bikes worth millions of rupees during the first four months of the year.

An official data available with The News shows 101 people were killed and 162 others shot at and injured during the period in the reported incidents. 

Out of the total reported incidents, 1,250 bikes were lifted, 90 snatched, 190 cars were stolen and three cars worth millions were snatched from six divisions of the Lahore police. 

Despite pioneering in technology based initiatives, the commanders of Lahore police have yet to yield the desired results by controlling crime against property and person.

The menace of bribery, moral and financial corruption, lust to grab property and inability of force to adopt technology has constantly been hampering the process of reforms in Thana culture. The crime data shows Sadr Division has topped the other divisions in crime against property with 830 reported incidents.

A citizen was shot dead on resistance. Out of the total incidents, 168 incidents of robbery, 50 of car lifting, 31 of bike snatching and 285 incidents of bike lifting were reported.

Residents of Bahria Town have also complained about rising incidents of theft and snatching. They said local police and society administration have not been taking action against criminals. 

Cantt Division remained on second number with 685 incidents of crime against property. Out of total reported crime, 8 record number dacoity, 160 incidents of robbery, 22 incidents of car lifting, 8 incidents of bike snatching, 230 incidents of bike lifting and 250 incidents of burglary were reported.

City Division was calculated on third position with minor difference of reported crime compared to Cantt Division in crime against property with 665 incidents.  Out of the total, three incidents of dacoity, 170 of robbery, one incident of car snatching, 31 of car lifting, 27 of bike snatching and 275 of bike lifting were reported.

Model Town Division was on 4th number with 530 incidents of crime against property. Out of the total, two incidents of dacoity, 101 of robbery, 2 incidents of car snatching, 35 of car lifting, 20 of bike snatching, 190 of bike lifting and 170 incidents of burglary were reported.

Iqbal Town Division stood 5th with 430 incidents of crime against property out of which, two incidents of dacoity, 120 of robbery, 32 of car lifting, 3 of bike snatching and 170 of bike lifting were reported.

Civil Lines Division was calculated on last number with 350 reported incidents. Out of the total, 110 of robbery, 25 of car lifting, 115 of bike lifting and 85 of burglary were reported. A man was killed by robbers on resistance.

It is worth mentioning that City Division topped in crime against person as 29 persons were killed and 42 others were shot at and injured during the aforesaid period.

Saddar Div stood second with 20 murders, Cantt third with 18, Model Town 4th with 14, Iqbal Town 5the with 13 and Civil Lines 6th with 7 murders. Pakistan Peoples’ Party leader Babar Sohail Butt was killed in March. Police have yet to arrest the plotters of his killing.
