Heatwave
Karachi is set to experience the hottest summer this year. Back in 2015, the city had a similar situation. At the time, people had faced a lot of problems. A large number of people lost their lives as well. Intermittent loadshedding added to the misery to the already traumatised people. Once again, residents are at risk.
According to some media reports, deforestation is likely to be the reason of this year’s heat stroke. Hundreds of trees are being cut in the city for construction purposes. If the prevailing situation continues, a balance in the ecosystem cannot be maintained. This will result in more climate hazards. Therefore, the relevant authorities are requested to take measures to tackle the problem. Power outages should be minimised so that people can at least fight the heat by turning fans and air conditioners on.
