CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Sherpao said on Friday that his party believed in democratic and peaceful struggle to help the people get their due rights.

He was addressing a public gathering to mark the death anniversary of former MPA Alamzeb Umarzai here. He paid glowing tributes to the slain party leader for his services. He said that aggression and violent tendencies were against the party’s policy as its leaders and workers rendered sacrifices and adopted peaceful ways to achieve political goals.

Aftab Sherpao said that violence was used against his party and it was pushed
to the wall but, it didn’t deviate from its principled stance. The QWP was not allowed to freely reach out to the people in 2013 general election, which badly affected its campaign, he added.

The former interior minister maintained that such an atmosphere was created for party leadership in which it was difficult for it to embark on electioneering campaign, but despite all odds the QWP leadership remained peaceful and canvassed in a democratic way.

Aftab Sherpao vehemently pleaded the cause of democracy, saying that the sustainability of democracy would usher in a new era of progression and development. He declared that QWP would not allow any move that undermined the democratic process.

Sherpao asked the government to unmask the real hands behind the killing of Mashal Khan, the student of Khan Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan. He also demanded probe into the Rs10 billion offer to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan.
