An international seminar titled ‘Potassium for sustainable crop production in Pakistan’ was organised at Tandojam, Sindh on April 19, 2017. The experts urged growers to increase the use potassium so as to strengthen their crops against the adverse effects of environmental changes, which are not only affecting weather, but is also depriving the soil from useful nutrients increasingly. The importance of using balanced fertilizer mix was also highlighted for promoting agriculture i.e. increasing yield of crops alongside boosting rural economy which is facing many challenges currently. In terms of output, the country is far behind the other agrarian countries around the world as it is termed as one of the lowest growing agricultural economy. The need for awareness programmes for farmers in this regard was also emphasized by the experts.

The agriculture sector in Pakistan is facing the challenges like high temperatures, droughts, acute water resources, for which the use of potassium is an essential element which can give crops the strength to resist these challenges. The potassium is non-toxic and important element to benefit crops and fruits. Therefore, it is urged to adopt new approach on the use of potassium fertilizer for promoting agriculture. In view of the above, there is a strong need to engage all the stakeholders like scientists, agriculturists, agronomists and farmers to raise awareness about the use of balanced fertilizers like potassium for the benefit of agriculture of the country.
