Long live Mashal

By our correspondents
April 21, 2017

The orders of the honourable chief justice to suspend the action of the KP government to form a commission to probe Mashal’s lynching in Mardan are really commendable, timely and as per the people’s aspiration. The same applies to the order to include ISI and military personnel in the police investigation. This is because, had these orders not been given; it is likely that the KP government would have tried to hastily wrap up the issue since the incident has exposed the inefficiency of the KP police that is claimed to be number 1 in the country by Imran Khan. How is it that the police could not avert the ghastly incident of lynching of Mashal? Why did the police act as silent spectators? It is said that the murder was planned. Where was the police special branch which is supposed to pre-empt such incidents?

The alleged involvement of the university’s administration in clearing up this case is also a spur on the four-year rule of the PTI government and Imran Khan who claim that all their attention was on the improvement of the education sector. Also, why hasn’t the KP administration taken any action against the maulanas who delivered hate speech and refrained the people from offering the funeral prayers of Mashal. The CJ is requested to conclude the case in a just manner. The gruesome incident has not only shaken the peaceful citizens of this nation, but damaged the image of Pakistan in the whole world. Moreover one can expect similar incidents in the future if the culprits are let scot free.
