SC verdict on Panama Papers should be accepted: MQM-P
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has decided to stand by the apex court’s judgment on the Panama Papers case, besides also urging other opposition political parties to accept it to uphold the constitution’s supremacy.
This was decided by the party’s lawmakers in meetings held in Karachi and Islamabad.
The MQM-P leadership observed that the judgment in Panama case not only be accepted, but all political parties should also vow to eliminate the menace of corruption from the country’s political structure. The party also urged opposition parties to take concrete steps to give up the evil of corruption in the larger interest of the country.
The party’s coordination committee in its meeting decided that the country was passing through a crucial period and it was the need of time that every political party, civil society and intellectuals contribute their share to bring Pakistan at par.
After a long wait the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday revealed that it would announce the eagerly-awaited verdict on the Panama Papers case on April 20 (today).
A five-member larger bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, and comprising Justices Ijaz Afzal Khan, Gulzar Ahmed, Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Ijazul Ahsen, will announce the reserved verdict.
According to the Supplementary Cause List issued by the apex court, the verdict will be announced at 2pm. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed of Awami Muslim League (AML), and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq had filed constitutional petitions, seeking the prime minister’s disqualification on charges of corruption.
