NTC chairman’s appointment case: Verdict reserved
LAHORE: Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday reserved the verdict on a petition challenging appointment of Qasim M Niaz as Chairman National Tariff Commission (NTC).
Petitioner’s counsel Shahfqat Chohan alleged that this appointment was made without seeking approval from the federal cabinet. He alleged that Niaz did not qualify for the post.He asserted that the impugned appointment was made in violation of the law and command of the superior courts. He requested to declare the appointment of Niaz as illegal.
A deputy attorney general in reply said the NTC was revamped to protect the local trade. He also submitted the summary of the federal cabinet meeting in which the approval for Niaz’s appointment was made. The judge after hearing the counsels reserved the judgment on the petition.
