A school robotics competition was held on the Kuri Campus of the Headstart School here. Thirty teams from different universities and schools participated in the event, the biggest one of its kind in the country.

Among the participants were the Headstart School, the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering of the National University of Sciences and Technology, Beaconhouse School, senior branch, Rawalpindi, Air University, Roots Millennium Schools, International School of Islamabad, Elementary Montessori System High School, and the FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences.

The competition had two modules. One module was ‘line tracking’ where the robots were to follow the line in the minimum time period to win the race, while the second module was maze runner, where the robots had to resolve the maze in the minimum time period.

The Headstart School beat all universities and schools in Lego category and won top positions, including winner and runner-up positions in the line tracking and maze runner modules.

Dr. Yasar Ayaz, the founder and head of the Department of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the National University of Sciences and Technology's School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, was the chief guest on the occasion.

A PhD in Mechatronics Engineering from Tohoku University, Japan, and specialising in robotics and machine intelligence, Dr. Yasar said he was really impressed by the works of little engineers.
