NOWSHERA: Awami National Party (ANP) General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain Wednesday asked the government to launch an operation against militants in Peshawar as militants were regrouping in the provincial metropolis and other urban areas.
Speaking at the Seerat Conference here, Mian Iftikhar said that militants have shifted from North Waziristan to other parts of the country, especially urban areas, after the military offensive against them. “The government should launch a search operation in every nook and corner of Peshawar to clear the city of militants regrouping in the provincial metropolis,” he added.
He said the government should also fortify security at the entrance and exit points to the city and deploy more troops on checkpoints to maintain law and order in Peshawar.About observing the chehlum of the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) at the Chief Minister’s House, the nationalist leader said that the government should have observed the chehlum on provincial level so a strong message should have been conveyed to the militants.Mian Iftikhar also criticised the chief minister and other Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers for insulting the parents of the martyred schoolchildren.
