Prayer ceremony

LAHORE: A prayer ceremony was held in Mission Ahata Ground at Raiwind for welfare of the country on Sunday.The ceremony titled ‘Pakistan Zinda Baad’ was arranged. Hosted by Pastor Anwar Fazal, the event was attended by around 100,000 members of the Christian community.Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu was chief guest on the occasion. MPA Shehzad Munshi, PML-N minority leader Asif Bhatti, Pastor Imran Fazal and other religious leaders and pastors from different churches of Pakistan besides Pastor John from Australia also participated in the event. Thousands of Christians waved Pakistani national flags on the occasion to express their love and solidarity with their motherland.

 

Nine injured as gas kit of van explodes

CHARSADDA: Nine passengers sustained injuries when the compressed natural gas (CNG) kit of a van exploded on the Ghani Khan Road on Sunday, police sources said. They said the CNG kit of a passenger coach, which was on way to Peshawar from Mardan, exploded on the Ghani Khan Road. "Nine passengers sustained injuries in the explosion," an official said, adding that the police rescued the injured and shifted them to the District Headquarters Hospital. Three of the injured were shifted to Peshawar due to their precarious condition.

 

PPP secretary finance lambasts PR minister for accusations

ISLAMABAD: PPP Finance Secretary Haider Zaman Qureshi, in response to a press conference by Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, has said midgets like him (Saad) cannot succeed in changing facts through false accusations. In a statement issued here on Sunday, Qureshi said the fact was that the government was being run by a clerk of Nawaz Sharif, who raised the oil prices five times in the last three months. He alleged that the Sharif family was plundering the poor public and amassing illegal wealth in foreign countries. He said the incapable railways minister should be held accountable for dozens of railway accidents. He said the PM family had been proved corrupt irrespective of the coming court decision in the Panama case.

 

Man injured in     Sialkot as gun goes off accidentally

SIALKOT: A man was injured when a gun of a security guard went off accidentally near the Alam Chowk on Sunday. Maqsood was standing outside a medical store when the gun of security guard Amir went off accidentally while cleaning it. Hajipura police have registered a case after arresting the guard.

 

Fake currency dealers arrested

KOHAT: The police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three accused on charges of distributing fake currency notes. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Headquarters, Rasheed Khan, told the reporters that the police had launched an investigation into the public complaints about distribution of fake currency notes in the markets. He added that the police traced and arrested three accused who were members of a large gang operating in the whole country. He identified the arrested accused as Amiruddin, Islamuddin and Khalid.

 

Three women raped in Pakpattan

PAKPATTAN: Three women were raped in separate incidents here on Sunday. The wife of Mahfooz was allegedly raped by Imran. The wife of Iqbal, a resident of Chak 16-SP, was allegedly raped by Munir Ahmad. The wife of Nazar Ahmad, a resident of Chak 355-EB, was allegedly gang-raped by Ashraf and Maqsood. Police have registered cases.

 

Man tortured to death for ‘honour’

BAHAWALPUR: A man was tortured to death for ‘honour’ here on Sunday. Accused Kashif and Rasheed had doubted that Ismail of Basti Arain had developed illicit relations with their sister. On the day of the incident, the accused allegedly tortured Ismail to death and threw his body in fields. The Qaimpur police have sent the body to the THQ Hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case against Kashif, Rasheed, their cousin Altaf and two unknown persons.
