NCSW seminar on animals’ rights

National Council of Social Welfare organsied a seminar titled ‘Animal Rights and our Social Responsibilities’ on Wednesday, says a press release. 

The seminar was chaired by NCSW Chairman Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik. Dr. Qurban Ali, Animal Husbandry Commissioner /Chief Veterinary Officer Pakistan, Ministry of livestock, National Food Security and Research  (NFS&R) was the chief guest. Representatives of NGOs, civil society, students and officials of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), attended the seminar.

In his presidential address Chairman, NCSW, said that people in Pakistan cherish domestic animals and especially those which have economical benefits. The purpose of holding seminar about the rights of animals was to create awareness among the public. Several volunteers’ organisations are working for the rights of animals in Pakistan which are working for adopting kind behavior with animals. However, more steps are needed to be taken yet. Islam and other religions have ordered their followers to maintain kind behavior with the animals. Islamic history is full of examples in which animals were well-treated. We know that animals are the creature of God and they are worthy of our attention. It is our social responsibility to take care of the animals. 

Other speakers Naeem Abbas, Representative of Brooke NGO, Professor Muhammad Ali Qureshi, Fouji Foundation University, Islamabad, Anees Jillani, CEO of SPARC and Syed Ishtiaq Gillani, CEO, UGOOD said that the seminar was very important because it was about to create public awareness about the rights of the animals. Animals have great importance in our domestic economy.
