The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has rejected the inquiry committee’s report on a female patient’s death on a hospital floor, terming it a government’s attempt to absolve itself of responsibility and victimise doctors.

“The young doctors of PIC chapter of YDA, Punjab, will hold protest demonstration in Punjab Institute of Cardiology on Wednesday (today) against victimisation of Dr Rasheed under Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act,” said Dr Gulshan, president of Young Doctors Association PIC chapter, Dr Salman Haseeb, Young Doctors Association information secretary and Dr Shoaib Niazi while speaking at a press conference at Old Hostel of PIC on Tuesday.

They said that doctors at PIC properly referred the patient, Zohra Bibi, from Kasur, to other hospital for treatment of renal dysfunction, who eventually died on the floor of Jinnah Hospital due to lack of beds.

The inquiry committee has put entire responsibility on Dr Rasheed, senior registrar of PIC, on ridiculous charge of not facilitating the patient with an ambulance after her referral to Jinnah Hospital.

They asked Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to first increase the number of beds in hospitals and establish new hospitals instead of building roads and bridges. They said that the patients died on wheelchairs in PIC due to lack of beds to cater to the heart patients.
