Police-lawyers tussle deepens
Cop’s thrashing
OKARA: The tussle between police and lawyers over the issue of thrashing of an ASI intensified on Monday when police raided the houses of those lawyers who were involved in the incident. On Saturday advocates Abdul Rehman Dogar, Rai Zulfiqar, Malik Noman and Rana Azeem and others allegedly thrashed ASI Javed Aslam outside the court of ASJ Raja Safdar.
According to DBA secretary general Rai Iqrar Kharral, after the thrashing incident in the presence of lawyers and two DSPs it was decided the issue would be resolved amicably, but to their surprise a case was registered against the lawyers and on Sunday night, police raided the houses of the lawyers.
Three out of four advocates got pre-arrest bails and filed petitions in separate courts against police raids and demanded case against the ASI who was thrashed. The judges sought police record today (Tuesday). Meanwhile, lawyers of Depalpur and Renala Khurd observed complete strike to show solidarity with Okara lawyers.
