Siraj warns govt against amending blasphemy law
PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) head Sirajul Haq on Monday warned against amending the blasphemy law.
Addressing a function at the Markaz-e-Islami here, he said some elements were active to amend the blasphemy law. “It will be the last day of the government if it tried to amend it,” Senator Sirajul Haq warned.
He added that sacrificing their lives for the honour of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was an honour for every Muslim. The JI leader criticised the government for handing overpeople to the United States on the plea that they were wanted.
“We have our own laws. There are courts so how can our people be illegally handed over to another country,” questioned the JI chief. He asked for constituting a commission to probe as to who handed over Aimal Kansi, Ramzi Yusuf and others to the US.
The JI chief said the religious scholars played an important role in the society but they were defamed by the rulers. He added that the only solution to the problems of the country was the Islamic system and JI was making all-out efforts for its enforcement in Pakistan.
