ACTION AGAINST ENCROACHMENTS

Islamabad

The residents of Islamabad feel that the management of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) was doing lip service and making tall claims of taking strict action against encroachments.

The ever increasing encroachment at Aabpara Market, Melody Market, F-6 Super Market are glaring examples of negligence and connivance of the CDA staff with encroachers.

The CDA sources said that non-cooperation on part of the personnel of the Directorate of Municipal Corporation (DMA) and attitude of the traders community have been main hurdles in success and anti-encroachment drive. “It has become a routine that encroachers against returns to area cleared during operations with connivance of DMA staff, after few days,” an official said.

A spokesman for CDA on Monday said that anti-encroachment operations are being conducted all over the city for complete eradication of encroachments from the federal capital. "On the directions of Mayor Islamabad and Chairman, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sheikh Anser Aziz, Director Enforcement is personally supervising Anti Encroachment Operations," he said.

Sheikh Anser Aziz has directed to take strict action against the encroachers and illegal occupants adding that in case of any hindrance assistance from Islamabad Administration and Islamabad police to seek and FIRs should be launched against the elements causing hindrance the Anti Encroachment Drive.

He said that encroachments are affecting the natural beauty of the federal capital therefore stern action would be taken against the encroachers. It directed to continue anti-encroachment drive without any fear and favour.

According to CDA spokesman, during the last three days, the Enforcement Directorate carried out gigantic operations in two big Markaz F-7 and F-10 Markaz and eliminated moveable and immovable encroachments.

During the operation conducted at F-7 Markaz encroachments from the verandas, footpaths, pathways and open areas were removed. During this operation 05 trucks encroachment material was also confiscated which was shifted to F-9 Store. During the operation some miscreant tried to stop the operation and attacked CDA Enforcement team however, operation was completed successfully. An FIR in this context has been got registered in Kohsar Police Station against the miscreants.

Similarly, during the operation conducted at F-10 Markaz 150 illegally constructed sheds in front of 50 plazas were also demolished and footpaths, verandas and pathways were made open for the general public. During this operation 10 laden truck encroachment material was confiscated and shifted to the F9 Store. Similarly during this operation, for shops constructed illegally at the open area of the markaz were also demolished.

It is pertinent to mention here that encroachers were given notices to remove encroachments voluntarily and action was taken after the expiry of notices. Furthermore traders unions and local elected representatives were also assisting the CDA Teams in these operations.
