Inflation

By our correspondents
March 24, 2017

Unabated inflation has taken a toll on the daily lives of the people. The rise in the prices of essential commodities has become a very serious issue. The daily necessities of life are becoming more expensive with each passing day. The steep rise in prices has severely hit the poor and the middle class of the country. They are being drowned under the crushing weight of rising prices.

A government-approved price list should be sent at all shops so that each shopkeeper sells a product at the same price. Discounted stores should be set up to help the poor meet their grocery needs. Black marketers and the hoarders of food items must be dealt with sternly. Food should not be wasted at marriage ceremonies and other related functions. Steps in the right direction will help make the life of the country’s impoverished segment worth living.

Rise in poverty has given birth to a large number of street beggars. In fact, at present, generations of families have taken up this profession to make their both ends meet. A large number of people are living below the poverty line and the government has not yet taken any concrete steps to help improve the situation. Beggars are being supervised by a mafia that ask for the money collected by them at traffic signals. A nominal amount of conditional commission is paid to them daily.

It is indeed heartrending that a large segment has no access to basic amenities. As a result, they are forced to earn this way. The government must plan out something for them. The Zakat Fund can be used to facilitate the poor class of the country. They should be given a proper place to live. Institutions can be set up to give vocational training to the poor class so that they can use their skills and have a decent living in the country.
