Pledges to bring improvement in working of Bank
ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday notified the appointment of Saeed Ahmed as President/Chief Executive of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) with immediate effect and for a term ending on January 19, 2019, official notification issued by Finance Ministry states.
According to a notification issued by Finance Ministry, a copy of which is available with The News, in exercise of power conferred under section 11(3) (6) of the Banks (Nationalization) Act 1974, the federal government is pleased to appoint Mr Saeed Ahmed as President/Chief Executive Officer National Bank of Pakistan with immediate effect and for a term ending on January 19, 2019.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had approved the summary for appointing Saeed Ahmed as President NBP out of total three names for this important slot.
The sources said that Saeed Ahmed had tendered his resignation from the post of Deputy Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) which was approved by the PM. After getting approval from the premier, the Finance Ministry issued the notification for his appointment as President NBP till Jan 2019.
While talking to The News on Wednesday evening, the newly-appointed President NBP, Saeed Ahmed, said that he would ensure merit and rule of law by the biggest nationalised bank of the country.
When asked a question regarding lack of adherence to the merit creating problem in the NBP, he said that he would not accept “safarish” from anyone.
“The lack of controls and lack of merit were bound to give bad name to institutions,” he said and added that he would ensure meritocracy, level playing field and introduction of information technology to bring desired change into the NBP.
He said that performance would be fully rewarded. He said that he believed in team work and would ensure good compensation for all those who were dedicated and hard working. He said that the capacity building of the workforce would be ensured for achieving excellence.
He said that there was a need to accept the difficulties and it would be a challenge for him to bring improvements. He said it is doable if intention is to correct things. “I have accepted this challenge and Allah Almighty will give guidance to achieve the best for the sake of the country,” he concluded.
