27 pre-conference workshops held in two days

As many as 27 pre-conference workshops have been organised in last two days in connection with the 3rd International Scientific Conference and Reunion on 42nd Anniversary of Rawalpindi Medical College at the three allied hospitals and old campus of RMC in town making the event remarkable for both the young doctors and national and international consultants.

On Wednesday, a total of 11 pre-conference workshops were conducted including three workshops at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, two workshops at Holy Family Hospital and three workshops at District Headquarters Hospital while another three workshops were organized at RMC campus.

The first workshop on Wednesday titled ‘Cerebral palsy Degenerative brain disease -- Update on anticonvulsants’ was held at Department of Paediatrics in BBH whose director was Professor Rai Mohammad Asghar and Dr. Afzal Sawal from UK while co-directors were Dr. Najaf and Dr. Mudassar.

The second workshop titled ‘Long acting reversible contraceptive implants’ was held at Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in DHQ Hospital whose director was Professor Attiya Begum and co-director was Dr. Sobia Nawaz.

The third in the series was a workshop on Echocardiography held at Cardiology Department at BBH whose director was Dr. Imran Saeed and co-directors were Dr. Salma and Dr. Mehdi.

The fourth workshop on Wednesday was on latest concepts on hernia management held at conference room of surgical unit 1 at HFH whose directors were Dr. Irfan Akhtar (UK), Dr. Shehzad Latif (UK) and Dr. Imran Alam (UK) while co-directors were Dr. Salman, Dr. Haseeb and Dr. Munazza.

Another workshop titled ‘Surgical Endocrinology’ was also held at conference room of surgical unit 1 at HFH whose director was Dr. Irfan Akhtar from UK and co-directors were Dr. Faryal Azhar and Dr. Ramla.

The sixth workshop on Wednesday titled ‘Made it easy for beginners – Workshop on quantitative research’ was held at conference room in Department of Community Medicine whose director was Professor Syed Arshad Sabir and co-directors include Dr. Farhan Hassan and Dr. Mehjabeen Qureshi.

Another workshop titled ‘Guidelines for surfactant in premature neonates’ was conducted at Department of Paediatrics in BBH whose director was Professor Rai Mohammad Asghar while co-director was Dr. Irfan Waheed.

A workshop titled ‘Biochemistry Symposium’ was conducted at Old Campus of RMC by Professor Riffat Khursheed while Professor Mohammad Khurram and Dr. Lubna Meraj as directors conducted a workshop on ‘Leadership style’ at Department of Medicine in DHQ Hospital whose co-director was Dr. Mahwash Jamil.

The tenth workshop on Wednesday titled ‘Team building’ was held at Department of Medicine in DHQ Hospital whose directors were Professor Mohammad Khurram and Dr. Lubna Meraj while co-director was Dr. Sadia Chaudhary from Fauji Foundation Hospital.

The eleventh workshop titled ‘Physiology Symposium’ was conducted by Professor M. Naeem as director at Old Campus of RMC on Wednesday whose co-director was Dr. Inam ul Haq.

Earlier on Tuesday, a total of 16 pre-conference workshops were organized in various departments of the allied hospitals and RMC including the one titled ‘CV writing and career statement’ held at conference room of Institute of Psychiatry at BBH whose director was Professor Dr. Tayyeb Tahir (Chair of Liaison faculty, UK) and co-director was Dr. Bushra Razzaque.

Other workshops held on Tuesday include therapeutic endoscopic workshop, leadership style, updates in various neurological workshops and a workshop titled ‘How to read a paper’.

Workshops on ‘Management of Rectal Cancer’, ‘Colpoproctology for general surgeons’, ‘Latest concepts about surgical management of obesity’ and ‘Arthroscopy: A diagnostic modality’, were also organized on Tuesday.

A workshop on ‘Postpartum haemorrhage’ was also held on Tuesday along with workshops

‘Mechanical ventilation’, ‘Functional endoscopic sinus surgery’, ‘Problem oriented diagnostic approach in coagulation’ and ‘Basic research skills for beginners’.

Three other workshops titled ‘Trauma management’, ‘Communication and empathy’ and ‘Endoscopic sinus surgery’ were also held on Tuesday in connection with the 3rd RMC International Scientific Conference.
