It is now an established fact that in summer, unscheduled loadshedding disrupts the daily routine of the people. For the last two years, summer in Pakistan has been extremely hot. The heat wave claimed the lives of hundreds of people. Intermittent power outages contributed a lot to the deaths. The people had to live without electricity throughout the days and nights. The energy crisis is not new. So many years have been passed but not a single government has been successful in resolving the issue. Many small-scale industries have been shut down because of the energy crisis.
The position of the country’s other natural resources is also unsatisfactory. Scarcity of oil and/or natural gas will have a huge blow on economic growth. The need of the hour is strategic planning. Talking strictly about energy consumption, it has been observed that the areas where power is in abundance waste the energy. Reforms should be introduced to tackle the situation. The suggestion to close the markets sooner was a sane one. If implemented, it would help save a lot of energy.
