Latest case shows poliovirus active in Rawalpindi

Investigations into the most recent polio case reported from Diamer have confirmed active poliovirus circulation in sewage samples of Rawalpindi for several months now.

The poliovirus that attacked the child in Diamer has its origins in Rawalpindi, where the victim had previously been living with his family. While the government has already announced a special polio campaign in four districts around Diamer, a consultative session with relevant partner agencies has also been called.
