Petitioner asked to produce ATC verdicts acquitting Sharifs
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed a petitioner to produce copies of decisions by accountability courts which acquitted the sitting prime minister and his family members in Ittefaq Foundry and other references. Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah was hearing petition of a citizen as “objection case” since the registrar office had put an objection on its maintainability. Petitioner Mahmood Akhtar submitted that accountability courts acquitted PM Nawaz Sharif and his family members in NAB references, however, the bureau had not challenged their acquittal. He stated that the NAB chairman was under obligation to file appeals against the court’s decisions but he did not do so with mala fide intention. He alleged that the Sharif family was also a defaulter of NBP loans. The petitioner prayed to the court to order the NAB chairman to challenge the acquittal of the Sharif family members in the accountability references. The chief justice adjourned the hearing till March 27 and directed the petitioner to furnish copies of the decision delivered by the accountability courts.
