LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that increased and improved education opportunities for women are positively co-related with higher economic productivity.
The Punjab government has taken concrete steps through its policies and measures for promotion and protection of women’s rights to ensure improved access of women to health and education.
Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, is rendering exceptional educational and social service to society, providing the students with best possible and latest education facilities along with its social awareness and reform projects for the protection of the rights of women and create interfaith harmony.
He stated this while talking to the KC Principal Dr Rukhsana David during his visit to the college. Khalil Tahir Sandhu said the college had extended full cooperation to the Punjab government through its consultation to empower women, concrete legislation against violence and harassment against women and provision of equal rights to them. He said that weak support system at home with its socially conservative attitude, male dominated institutions and lack of legal awareness at grass roots level keep the vulnerable women unable to access justice service providers.
The Punjab government through its strong legislation and full implementation has made it possible to safeguard the rights of women, including job protection, he added.
Kinnaird College Principal Dr Rukhsana David informed the minister that the college had successfully completed more than 400 social action projects regarding protection and promotion of human rights, creating interfaith harmony among communities.
