‘Islamabad to soon have solid waste management system’

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Baligh-ur-Rehman on Monday informed the Senate that the government was working on solid waste management in the federal capital to have an efficient collection system.

Replying to a motion in the Upper House of parliament, he said the bidding process, to be opened on March 20, would be completed in a transparent manner. He said that under the directions of the Prime Minister, roads were being carpeted, new trees planted and overhead bridges constructed while work had been started on landscaping of Islamabad.

Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the Senate that efforts were being made for completion of the city’s beautification plan He said that the Prime Minster has issued a grant of Rs 5 billion for Capital Development Authority (CDA) for completion of various development projects and initiate new ones.

Three separate reports of the standing committees were also presented in House. These are: on the bill to provide for establishment of the Pakistan National Accreditation Council [The Pakistan National Accreditation Council Bill, 2016]; on the bill to provide a regulatory and enabling environment for private participation in provision of public infrastructure and related services through fair and transparent procurement [The Public Private Partnership Authority Bill, 2016]; and on the bill to provide for establishment of the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology [The Pakistan Council for Science and Technology Bill, 2016].
